Exhibition by Anne Risum at Solbjerg Plads until February 24th

Anne writes about herself:

My paintings are stories that unfold in oil on canvas, or in graphic works created using the cyanotype technique. I work in many thin layers, which also reflect the people who appear in the stories. It is precisely people with many layers that interest me. People who have made life choices from the heart and not with reason. I call them “The lucky people,” lucky not because they win the lottery or were born with a silver spoon in their mouth, but because they have found their talent and had the courage to live it out, and because they represent a world that is invisible to many.

The nature that surrounds me in the forest where we live plays a significant role in my paintings. It can be found in the colors, the perspective, or in the background itself. I was originally trained as an old-fashioned printmaker from the Printing Academy and Aarhus Academy of Fine Arts, but first out of necessity and later out of passion, colorful oil painting became my preferred medium.

However, in the last three years, I have returned to the graphic expression. Here, the stories come to life with the cyanotype technique, mixed with ink, watercolor, and toner baths. It is like coming home from a long journey with a backpack full of experiences that need to be turned and twisted to make sense to outsiders, and it is a good and exciting process.

I have my workshop and gallery in Ry, in Pakhuset in the old train station building. I create the cyanotypes at home in the forest in Sdr. Vissing in an old trailer.

New exhibition by Torben Nielsen at Dalgas Have until February 18th

Torben writes:

From play to seriousness, that’s how briefly it can be described. The workshop is my playground, where ideas and thoughts create the foundation for playing with clay. The ideas often come from the borderland, between dream and reality.

I am inspired by what happens around me. It is a constant battle between the clay and me.

Exhibition by David Dellagi at Solbjerg plads until November 25th

David Dellagi’s practice aims at creating a kaleidoscopic and three-dimensional abstract universe, exploring the notion of dynamism on the canvas. In his latest works, this approach unfolds fully, as colorful polygons seem to be hurling through space, and asymmetrical patterns of color and light open up different spatial perspectives coexisting in one and the same painting.

Using cut-outs of photographic material, each painting starts out as a paper collage, allowing for a layered visual multiverse of references hidden inside the paintings. The collage is then manipulated digitally and painted onto the canvas. With their use of hard-edge geometric color fields, the paintings have much in common with concrete abstract art. Dellagi seeks to fuse this aesthetic with the three-dimensional and kaleidoscopic sensibility of early 20th-century art movements, such as Futurism and Cubism.

Exhibition by Emil Bonné Meyer at Solbjerg Plads until October 16th

Emil writes about himself:

My name is Emil Bonné Meyer, I am an artist and primarily work with painting. My process is very experimental, and I use all the pigments I can get my hands on. I work, among other things, with the meeting between water and water-repellent substances to create contrasts and contours, and with the thick oil paint meeting the acidic, like coffee, to create textures and blotches. In my studio, there are rows of chemicals and jars of solutions and powders. My current painting style is somewhere between surrealism, minimalism, and abstraction.

For me, the viewer’s, your thoughts and feelings, your understanding of the work is far more important and just as genuine as mine. It is between you and the work that it becomes exciting, there is a conversation that is private and deeply personal. Of course, I would like to have a conversation about my works if there is a desire for it. I gladly share my own interpretation, and I am honored when people share theirs with me, but my understanding is not a definitive answer.

This means that I avoid attaching text to my works; down to the point that they do not get a title. Therefore, I am not particularly practiced in writing about myself and my work as I am doing here. I experience worries and hopelessness like everyone else, it’s just hard to put into words, which is why I paint. That is what makes humans as beings so beautiful, we manage, even when it is most hopeless, to find happiness and love.
